TO LEAD IS TO LISTEN

(And then rolling up your sleeves to get things done.)

TO LEAD IS TO LISTEN

(And then rolling up your sleeves to get things done.)

Leadership begins with listening to those you represent. What are their concerns? How do they view their daily lives? For what dreams do they reach? Which aspirations do they fear might slip away?

Over the last few months, I have heard from many District 1 residents—at neighborhood association meetings, at community events, and at your homes. Your concerns drive my thinking and anchor my commitments.
— Michael

Michael knows that a community's true strength comes from the bottom up and not the top down—and that to understand that strength, one must listen with humility and compassion.

As your District 1 Council Member, Michael will always put listening first.

TO LEAD IS TO SERVE

(And that means putting others before yourself.)

TO LEAD IS TO SERVE

(And that means putting others before yourself.)

Michael's leadership style is simple: respect, include, empower. If you begin with the belief that all people are worthy of respect, then you must work to include them—from the beginning—in the policy conversations that will affect their lives. Having brought everyone into the conversation, a true leader encourages others to organize and take independent action.

A leader does not inflate his own position; he elevates the positions of others. A leader does not shoot down others' ideas; he finds resources to help realize those ideas. A leader does not discount or ignore those with whom he disagrees; he seeks to understand and learn from them.

As your District 1 City Council Member, Michael will always make service the primary goal.
